Spiritual Hygiene: Why Herbal Baths Are Essential in Today's World.

Growing up, my mother would prepare herbal baths using plants gathered right from our backyard. I remember watching her carefully select the leaves, or she would send my sister and me out to forage them for her. She would wash our gatherings, add them to a massive pot of water, and leave them to steep until the water grew dark and rich. Afterward, she would pour the brew into our bathwater.

While they didn't always have the sweetest, most spa-like smell, we knew without a doubt that those baths were deeply potent—a foundational staple of care and protection in our household. Looking back, it’s no wonder that spiritual baths became the very foundation of my own business. My mom was preparing me for this path long before I even realized it.

Those early lessons at home taught me the core of true healing: before we can call in the new, we have to clear out the old. This is the practice of spiritual hygiene, and it is more crucial now than ever.

Why Herbal Baths Are Essential Today?

We live in an overstimulating, heavy, and fast-paced world. Every day, we absorb energetic debris from our environments, our screens, our stressors, and the people around us. Just as we wash our physical bodies to remove dirt and sweat, our energetic bodies require regular cleansing. Without spiritual hygiene, that energetic buildup can leave us feeling heavy, stagnant, anxious, or disconnected from our truth. Herbal baths are the reset button. They clear the noise so you can hear your own spirit again.

What Exactly Is an Herbal Bath?

An herbal bath is entirely different from your everyday shower or bubble bath. It is a sacred ritual of immersing your body in the life force and medicine of plants. When we steep herbs in water, we are extracting not just their physical properties, but their spiritual essence. You are essentially soaking in a concentrated brew of plant spirit energy, allowing the water to cleanse your aura and recalibrate your energetic frequency.

How to Choose Which Herbs to Work With?

There is a vast apothecary of earth medicine available to us, and choosing the right herbs comes down to understanding your current season of life.

  • Energetic Needs: Are you seeking protection, grounding, heart-opening, or block-busting?
  • Astrological Alignment: You might work with specific herbs ruled by the moon for intuition, or Mars-ruled herbs for boundaries and courage.
  • Intuition: Sometimes, a specific plant will simply call to you.

When Should I Take an Herbal Bath?

Listen to your body and your life. You should consider a spiritual bath when:

  • You feel energetically drained, heavy, or irritable for no clear reason.
  • You are transitioning into a new chapter (a new job, moving, or after a breakup)
  • You want to align with cosmic cycles, such as the New Moon (for setting intentions) or the Full Moon (for releasing what no longer serves you).
  • You’ve been around dense, chaotic, or negative environments.

Is There a Right or Wrong Way to Do It?

While there are no rigid "rules," your intention and conviction are everything when connecting to Source. A spiritual bath isn't about getting physically clean—in fact, you may want to take your regular shower before your ritual bath so you are stepping into the herbal water already cleansed.

When it comes to the physical practice, there is a method I was taught long ago: the direction you wash helps guide the energy. If you are taking a cleansing bath to release and let go, you want to wash the water over yourself in a downward motion, visualizing that stagnant energy washing away down the drain. Conversely, when you are working to bring in blessings, abundance, or sweet energy, you want to wash in an upward motion to draw those gifts your way.

But please, don’t get caught up in the nuances of this. The "right" way is simply to be present. Speak your intentions aloud, hold your conviction, and let it be an honest conversation between Spirit, the earth, and you.
